2012 Marching Band Payments
Can you believe that it is already time to start planning for the 2012 Marching Season?!?!?!?   We have established a payment plan that is designed to create a minimum impact to family budgets and to allow us to start the 2012 season.  The non-refundable deposit ensures that your band member has a spot for them at band camp and confirms numbers for drill and music writing.  Each payment there after corresponds with payments that we need to make before the season starts.  The final payment is set BEFORE band camp to ensure that volunteers do not need to handle money issues at camp.

The 2012 payment plan is listed below:

March 15        $50.00 - non-refundable deposit
April 15        $100.00
May 15  $100.00
June 15 $100.00
July 15         $100.00

All payments should be mailed to:

Olentangy Music Boosters Association
c/o Flo Trotto
2873 Nantucket Dr.
Lewis Center, OH  43035

If you have not yet made your deposit, please contact Mr. Brun to make arrangements.

2012-2013 Band Volunteers
As we approach a new season it's time to start getting things squared away with our band volunteers.  This year (like every year) we have a very active group of Senior parents that will be leaving us . . . and leaving very important volunteer positions.  I'm reaching out to all of our parents to fill all of these roles.  It takes ALL of us to make great things happen for these kids, and even a few hours of involvement here and there impacts their lives greatly!

Below is a list of volunteer positions that we need to fill for the 2012-2013 season.  Some people have already approached me about some positions, and I'm sure more have talked to me that I've forgotten about.  The numbers are just to give an idea of what would be best for the kids and the program.  We can do it with less, but not as effectively as when everyone pitches in.  The Lead in each group is just the person that I will be in contact with and will help organize those areas.  Someone with experience in those areas is preferable, but not required (just good communication and leadership skills).

Thank you to anyone that has volunteered that I missed below.  I'm still going though old email and slowly making a dent.  :)

106+    Parents Volunteers Needed (if I've done my math right)

All volunteers need to be Olentangy School Board approved before we can proceed.  Attached is the Olentangy School District Volunteer Packet.  It's LOOKS crazy!  But it's not too bad.  A lot of forms to read and a few forms to fill out.  ALL volunteers MUST have an FBI/BCI&I Background Check to be board approved.  This can be obtained (by appointment) at a local police station or the Delaware Area Career Center for a small fee.  If you have questions about the packet, please contact Caroline Dewese at 740-657-5051.

It may take the whole village to raise a child, but it takes an ARMY of parents to run a band!  :)

The 23rd Annual Playing from the Heart Benefit Concert
June 4, 2012.

The Benefit Concert Association is dedicated to generating support for the Heart Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Our Annual Benefit Concert features performances by extraordinarily talented children, and raises funds that support the Heart Center's acquisition of state-of-the-art medical technology.

The Heart Center brings together the widest array of pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac intensivists and anesthesiologists, as well as advanced nurses and ancillary staff to care for critically ill patients. Services include sophisticated procedures for infants, children, and adults with congenital heart disease, as well as a heart transplantation program.

Parade of Homes
It is hard to believe we are starting to wind down the 2011-12 school year already.  Spring has definitely sprung (at least on the calendar) and as I know we are all anxious for our summer break and all the fun that goes with it, I wanted to ask for your assistance and participation in a VERY IMPORTANT fundraising effort that will take place mid June.  The Music Boosters have been given the awesome privilege of working at this years BIA Parade of Homes event in Lewis Center June 16-July 1.  http://biaparade.com/aws/BIA/pt/sp/biaparade_location

The BIA is making a huge donation to the OMBA in return for us providing volunteers to help with parking.  Several of you participated in this last year and we are hopeful we can encourage even more of you to sign up for this year's parade.  We need approximately 8 adults/students for each three hour shift.  There are three shifts per day (except for Sundays).  Please follow these instructions:

  1. Click on this link https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aiy45MP-TFYXdGtBTTAwUnBqZkpBQVRPa3d1VWE0MXc and you will see a spreadsheet called "Parade of Homes Parking Schedule 2012".  This was created using Google Docs and should allow you to type in your name in the space corresponding with the day and time you'd like to work.  It does save automatically so need to send me a note as I will be able to check daily who has signed up and where we are short.

You will see a key at the bottom that you should type in right next to your name, e.g. PB = Lead Parent-Band*, PO-Parent - Orchestra, AB = Adult-Band, C=Choir Student, and so forth.   *I will need 1-2 people to sign up as Lead Parents for each shift.  You will be my point person(s) for the shift.

There is a training session on Tuesday June 12th at 5:30 pm at the parade site where we will receive instructions.  Any Lead Parents who are able to attend that would be great.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for us to fully staff this event.  It is a huge money maker for the program and if we feel we can't meet the BIA's needs I need to let them know ASAP as they will have to find another group.  If you have any questions, please call me at 614-787-3065 or email me at mfenstermaker2001@yahoo.com

Thank you so much!
Michelle
